A study conducted by the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition indicated that the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal impacted a minimum of 826 companies, with the total damage estimated at R7 billion.
During disaster events, relief organizations mobilize to impacted areas, collaborating with local leaders to assess and address critical humanitarian needs. These efforts often involve rescuing and treating victims, offering temporary shelter, providing hot meals, offering trauma counseling, and distributing hygiene kits. The Collen Mashawana Foundation has consistently been involved in disaster response, recovery, and mitigation activities, ensuring sustained support through various phases of emergencies.
The Collen Mashawana Foundation is dedicated to addressing the immediate and enduring needs of communities impacted by disasters. Collaborating with local residents, we engage in rebuilding or maintaining homes affected by disasters, and distributing food relief parcels and other essential items. Through various disaster relief programs, the foundation has provided aid to thousands of individuals across South Africa over the years.

COVID 19 PPE Distribution Program

During the hard lockdown, the Collen Mashawana Foundation fed over 10 000 people through our Covid-19 Relief Program. Most of the beneficiaries were elderly citizens, women, people living with disabilities and child-headed families across all Provinces of South Africa. Our much-publicized efforts have prompted ordinary citizens such as ourselves to join in on making a difference for those who needed it the most
We also donated thousands of PPE in compliance with Covid-19 laws and regulations. Food parcels were distributed to the community of Ha-Makhuvha and Ha-Mashawana Village in Venda. As an NPO, the Collen Mashawana Foundation is committed to playing its part and working with government and other solidarity organizations to support distressed communities during these trying times.
