As a part of the KZN Rebuild Intervention Program which was launched on the 11th of November 2022, the Collen Mashawana Foundation in partnership with the Old Mutual Foundation have successfully built three additional houses for the KZN flood victims.

The three new houses were handed over to the families on the 17th of February 2023 as part of our commitment to construct 80 new homes for the families that were rendered homeless due to the disastrous floods in April of 2022. Since the start of the Rebuild Programme, we have handed over three new houses and the three additional houses are a second phase into the Programme.

The three families each received a completely new and furnished home that comes with a garden and a septic system, a Jojo tank for harvest.

The first family to receive a house belongs to Ntate Richard who is 56 years old and is mentally disabled. He had no family that could help him and was under the care of his neighbour. The second beneficiary was Mam Khombisile who is a 47-year old homeless woman that was residing at a nearby church. The third beneficiary is Mam Slindile a 45-year old woman who is unemployed and was living with her three children in a home that leaks during heavy rains.

We believe that it if we are to eradicate poverty, we need to start with providing the stability that people need to address various societal issues such as unemployment, mental illness, and physical health.
