A few weeks ago, The Collen Mashawana Foundation was invited to assess the living conditions of the Mgomeni family, which is a family of 22 residing in Winterveld. The family has faced the most living in an unsafe dilapidated house for many years and had lost all hope in repairing the damages mostly caused by heavy rains and little to no maintenance.
With the current economic conditions, the family is one of many who find themselves relying on Social Grants for a living. Their financial struggles have had the most impact on the children who have been unable to pursue their basic rights to education.
Upon witnessing the appalling circumstances, the Collen Mashawana Foundation immediately moved the family to a temporary structure that was safer and also committed to building them a permanent home that is safe and conducive for a large family.
“We are proud of the collaboration with Mampeule Foundation in aid of our fellow South Africans in need, and time and time again we have shown that as a country we can come together and extend a helping hand where needed” said the Founder of the Foundation, Mr. Collen Mashawana.
We handed over a beautiful fully furnished home to the family who were not only in need of a home but are also deserving. We thank the Department of Social Development, Ferguson Foundation, Nono Events and Afribiz Construction for their contributions in restoring the dignity of the family. We would like to encourage more hands to come on board in helping us achieve our vision and we hope for more collaborations in our efforts towards helping one family at a time.
