Collen Mashawana Foundation team visited 100-year-old Kenaope Mosidi
In response to the traumatic eviction that occurred one week ago, the Collen Mashawana Foundation visited 100-year-old Kenaope Mosidi today at the home of the elderly to see how she is doing.

Gogo Mosidi is doing well and living in a Johannesburg nursing home, where she is well cared for by trained nurses and caregivers.

Our team was accompanied by Phatu Mukona, who intervened after the eviction to secure Gogo's safety and remove her from the setting wherever she had been complicit.

We bought a bouquet of flowers and chocolates for Gogo Mosidi to let her know how wonderful she is and to remind her that she is special. She was so pleased and eager to meet the Collen Mashawana Foundation team that she amazingly stood up with joy and asked the CMF team to take her for a walk outside. Seeing our elderly happy is the most heartwarming thing there is.

We learnt about Gogo Mosidi's home in the Northwest during our visit today, and she emphasized that she wants to go back there to be with her family in a comfortable setting. We got in touch with one of Gogo's family members, who confirmed that she does, in fact, have a home in Rusternburg, where she will be safe and comfortable and surrounded by family and friends. Currently, her son is also a resident of the property.

Gogo will be returned safely to her home in the North West, where the Collen Mashawana Foundation and the Social Development Department are hard at work making arrangements for her welcome.

We urge South Africans to speak up and protect our elderly because they are vulnerable and their rights are often violated. The Collen Mashawana Foundation values the elderly because they hold our history in their hands.

We speak for those who have no voice since it only takes one act of kindness to make someone human. For this reason, the Foundation constantly looks out for and protects the rights of old people who are in poor health and whose rights are frequently abused.
