In reflecting on my birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I am struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSSENTIAL GIFT: time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing and the sacred time we have on this earth.
Amongst the most valuable gifts of time is also time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change. On that most heartfelt notion, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it makes me made wonder: what would happen if we all committed a day to helping someone else or helping the most vulnerable members of our society? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?
I believe facilitating the welfare of those who most need it is one way to help our people regain their confidence and rebuild their lives, and for my birthday, I have asked several friends, entrepreneurs, actors, musical artists and activists – all of which are passionate about improving the lives of the destitute – to help kick of a national effort by contributing A DAY OF THEIR LIVES to visit several communities and spend the day sharing and helping the most vulnerable people there. The purpose is to demonstrate as ordinary people we can assist one another and improve each other’s lives in all corners of our country. The foundation has also used the challenge to fundraise where the proceeds will be given to the winner to donate to an old age home of their choice. Some of the prominent people who have accepted the challenge include:
Businessman TT Mbha
Actor Lebo Jo Jo Gunguluza
Entrepreneur Zareef Minty
Musical Artist DJ Jawz
Musical Artist Rabs Vhafuwi
Entrepreneur Thandeka Nombanjinji-Nzama & more.
I hope they each help someone to advance a wonderful life on their own terms, and I hope they inspire countless others to give a day of their time as well. If you are able, please JOIN US, and pledge a day today in service of others in the way that feels right for you. The time that you donate can contribute to a NATIONAL WAVE OF SERVICE and set in motion meaningful impact in our own communities, and across the world.
